Then we build up: ice and water shield in valleys and at eaves, synthetic underlayment across the full deck, new drip edge on every edge, starter strip, field shingles, hip and ridge caps, and ridge vent. We install IB Roof Systems and Duro-Last PVC with factory-fabricated accessories for watertight penetration details. Built-up roofing (BUR) uses 3 or 4 plies of fiberglass felt in hot asphalt with a gravel or cap sheet surface. Oldest proven flat roof system, with 30+ year service life in Washington. We still install BUR when the application calls for it.
